The origins of Gooch & Associates can be traced back to 1903, when Hickman Stribling, a Civil Engineer and Surveyor, began his practice under the name H. Stribling. Known for his dedication to quality and precision, Mr. Stribling built a strong foundation that would be carried on by future generations. He practiced until 1937, when his nephew, Joseph Hester Gooch, took up the profession, working under the name J. H. Gooch.
In 1942, Joseph partnered with Joseph S. Taylor and his brother, John Stribling Gooch, who had recently returned from service in the Army Air Corps. Together, they formed Gooch & Taylor Surveyors, a firm that thrived until Joseph S. Taylor’s retirement on December 31, 1971.
On January 1, 1972, the two Gooch brothers established Gooch & Associates. After Joseph’s passing in 1974, John continued as the sole leader until his own passing in 2001, when his son, John S. Gooch Jr., became president.
Today, Gooch & Associates PA is led by John S. Gooch III, a third-generation South Carolina PLS. He oversees day-to-day operations with a commitment to carrying the company forward into the next generation, honoring the legacy of excellence established over a century ago.
